Roswell & North Fulton Parks and Recreation Update

With the warmer weather gradually taking hold, now is the time to take advantage of the numerous recreational opportunities offered by north Fulton municipalities.

Of special interest are some of the cities’ newest projects and facilities.

“We are getting ready to begin renovation of the Bethwell Community Center,” said Milton’s director of Parks and Recreation, Cyndee Bonacci. “This is a building built in the early 1950s that has been used over the years for community gatherings, meetings, family functions and programs.”

The renovation project to the 1,300 sq ft building on Hopewell Road should be awarded in early April and should be complete by late May, Bonacci said. Read the rest of this entry »


Three options presented for Bethany Bend redistricting

Three zoning map alternatives were presented Wednesday at the second community meeting for what Fulton County School System officials are calling the largest redistricting process they’ve ever faced.

Executive Director of Operational Planning Yngrid Huff, who is overseeing the process of rezoning due to the construction of a new high school in Milton, presented the three alternatives, but said the final map presented for School Board approval would most likely be a hybrid of the three maps.

“I can almost guarantee that in round three we will not have one of the alternative maps,” she said. None of the elementary school boundaries have been altered.

According to Huff, the first of the three proposed maps reflects the desire of many parents to create direct feeds from middle schools into high schools, so students will not be separated from the classmates they know.

But Huff said Plan A does not solve many of the overcrowding problems because the new high school at Bethany Bend will not come close to meeting its capacity, but she said, “We wanted to make sure we give you that as an option.”.. Read the rest of this entry »
