Little late on these but wanted to post some pictures we took of the Color’s Festival of Arts over Mother’s Day Weekend. Was too busy being awe struck watching my cousin eat deep fried snickers last year to bother taking any pictures.
There are always plenty of things to do for the kids. Finger painting was the big attraction this year. The handmade crafts, art, food and entertainment are always worth coming out for. Plus, the weather was spectacular this year.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW ALL HOMES FOR SALE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF CANTON STREET
Understandably, I get a lot of inquiries about homes for sale around Canton Street. Unfortunately, the pickings are very slim. I was one of the lucky ones and nabbed a good one off of Thompson Place. I thought it would be a good tool to have a link to a list of current homes available in this area. I have designated an area around Canton Street that I feel like is a short walk. Personal preference will vary but this is my opinion. Please request an Organic Home Search if interested in defining your own area to target. Let me know if you have any questions about finding a home around Canton Street.

Restaurants are some of the riskiest ventures that an entrepreneur can undertake. According to national statistics, more than one in four restaurants do not make it to their one year anniversary. Given that dim statistic, it is even more impressive when a restaurant opens with a unique and distinctive flair.
If you’ve been to Canton Street in the last eight months you’ve seen it, and if you haven’t you’ve probably heard about it – Salt Factory. the Salt Factory, or Red Salt as it was previously known, knocked out a lot of local residents with its ITP feel in an OTP setting. Owner Hicham Azari along with Fikret Kovac and Executive Chef Richard Wilt – who also owned Little Alley – have opened yet another new bold restaurant just two doors down from the Salt Factory called INC.
INC opened on February 1st and is yet another chapter in the ever growing Canton Street success story. In the midst of a worldwide recession these restaurateurs have yet again captured a creative spirit that will impress you with not only its culinary offerings but also a unique ambiance. INC is defined as offering the market and street flare of Latin America. According to Azhari, “We are excited to move forward in another joint venture with Wilt. His passion for culinary expertise was obvious at Little Alley and remains so at Salt Factory.”
the decor inspired by owner Azhari combines various Latin American themes to create the authentic vibe. the focal point you’ll notice immediately is the exposed kitchen designed in the style of a food service streetcar. The restaurant’s walls are painted in a graffiti style coupled with vibrant colorful features, making INC a unique atmosphere. Beyond the decor there is also seating in the front as well as a spacious patio in the back.
Beyond the imaginative decor, the menu is an inspiration as well. According to Wilt, “Guests will be invited to take in a the pure cuisine, and exciting flavors and pairings of Latin America.” It is a combination of market and street foods of Latin America complete with starters, soups and salads, tacos and other Latin specialties. A couple of highlights are the Roasted Salvadoran Chicken Pupusa, Columbian Escalvida (fish stew) and Roasted Half Chicken. The beverage offerings have also been handled with authenticity in mind. INC offers imported beers from Mexico, Spain and Jamaica as well as various tequilas.
INC and its sister Salt Factory have certainly been a bright spot for the local culinary scene. It’s initiatives like these that are sure to be rewarded for their forward and positive thinking. On the surface you would perhaps think these men are crazy for taking such bold steps in this economy. Yet with the overwhelming success they’ve already enjoyed, the only people who are crazy are the ones not hoping these men continue to invest their creative initiatives in Roswell.

The allure of Douceur de France’s baked goods is almost irresistible.
Three days after the shop opened last week in a former insurance office on Alpharetta Street in Roswell, Byron Brown said he came in for one item and left with four.
“I’ve lived in Roswell most of my life and always said the one thing needed to complete the Canton Street area is a good bakery,” he said, clutching a baguette and bag of pastries.
The shop’s name translates to “sweetness of France,” said manager and co-owner Brigitte Cacciatore.
It is the second for pastry chef Luc Beaudet, who with his wife and Cacciatore own and operate the well-regarded and hugely popular Douceur de France in Marietta.
“All our customers who came to Marietta from Alpharetta and Roswell kept saying, please can you open in a location closer to us,” said Ms. Cacciatore, a Roswell resident herself.
Dozens of different pastries and cakes in glass cases greet customers, and even more variety is available with a day’s notice.
Among the temptations are a chocolate mousse, orange cream and chocolate cake soaked in Grand Marnier, glossy fruit tarts, strawberry shortcakes, Napoleons and chocolate eclairs.
“Our pastires are very special, very traditionally French,” Ms. Cacciatore said. Beaudet makes them himself every day.
An area off tot he side can accommodate 62 dinners for breakfast and lunch. French staples such as quiches, grilled sandwiches of ham or turkeyand swiss cheese topped with bechamel sauce, omelettes and crepes are on the menus, as well as specialties such as eggs chicken Florentine and burgundy beef stew.
“Everything we have is made from scratch, and everything is hand made,” Ms. Cacciatore said.
Doucer de France is at 1173 Alpharetta St. For more information go to douceurdefrance.com

Historic Roswell will be filled with live music and a variety of food when Taste of Roswell returns for the fifth year.
“We do this to gain awareness of the wonderful restaurants Roswell has to offer,” said Marsha Saum, tourism sales manager at the Historic Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re so fortunate to have so many one of a kind, locally-owned restaurants.”
Several new restaurants have joined the line up this year, including Artisan Foods Cafe and Bakery, Da Cajun Kitchen and Froots, a restaurant that specializes in fruit smoothies.
Some returning favorites are Aqua Blue, Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee House, Brookwood Grill and Taco Mac.
Relish and Fickle Pickle owner Andy Badgett has participated in the event every year and said it is a great opportunity to gain exposure.
“We’ve done a lot of bigger events like this, but we like this one because we get to interact with the guests more,” he said. “Also, it supports historic Roswell and local restaurants. So we’re embracing local flavor, not only in food but in ambience.”
Badgett said he will be serving cucumber lemonade and pimento cheese fritters from Relish and his famous chili from the Fickle Pickle.
“It’s always a great event,” he said. “It’s a great time of year, and we get to see our regulars and introduce ourselves to new people.”
In addition to the food samples, which are priced from 50 cents to $3, the event will feature live music with help from radio station WYAY 106.7 Atlanta’s True Oldies.
“We’re looking forward to the sounds of the oldies,” Ms. Saum said. “Usually we have bluegrass, so we’re changing it up a bit.”
Ms. Saum said she expects 8,000 to 10,000 residents to attend.
Taste of Roswell takes place Saturday from noon to 5:30pm.
