Roswell Gems: Whole Foods/Harry’s

Harry’s/Whole Foods
1180 Upper Hembree Road
Roswell, GA 30075

I have a sneaking suspicion that those reading this blog will think I have officially lost my mind by describing Whole Foods as a “Roswell Gem”. All I can say in response is…hold on to your hat brother. This is not your typical Whole Foods. Granted, Elizabeth and I would be thrilled with any regular ole Whole Foods nearby and I probably would have eventually added it to my blog as well. But again, this place is unique and special even to the Whole Foods brand.

As you may or may not know, Whole Foods acquired the Harry’s Farmers Market stores in 2001. This facility was the original Harry’s Farmer’s Market which opened in 1987 and as you can see below- it was/is a huge facility. Harry’s was extremely successful here and the Whole Foods takeover has only increased the success.

It’s easy to mistake the building for something other than a Farmer’s Market from the street. The facade is deceptive in a way and only the two small signs reveal the business inside. Read the rest of this entry »

The Nature of Real Estate in Roswell and Marietta

chat-nat-rec-areaElizabeth and I took in some hiking/sightseeing today which had been long overdue. After lunch at the Fickle Pickle on Canton Street, we decided to head down to the trails along Riverside and Azalea Drive which run parrallel to the Chattahoochee River very close to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This 4-5 mile stretch of the river is a very popular put-in spot for the local high school and college crew teams. Runners make good use of the paved jogging trails while bikers love the wide bike lanes along many of the roads in the area around the river. Of course, this hot spot is not just for the athletically inclined. Many couples and families will pick out a picnic table or stretch out on a grassy area for an outdoor lunch while the kids enjoy one of several playgrounds.

The true stalwart of this area and what brings residents together here is the Chattahoochee River. Of course, the real estate in the area has become a sight to behold as well. Several cities come together at this bend in the river. To the north of the river is Roswell, to the south is Sandy Springs and to the west is Marietta. Most people expect that the homes within a short walk to the river are out of their price range- and to a certain extent they would be correct. There are plenty of high-end luxury subdivisions with homes above $750,000 approaching and exceeding $1M. However, there are options for those that want a piece of the Chattahoochee without paying a premium.

chatt-houseThis Roswell GA home to the left is a great example of an affordable property in the Chattahoochee Nature Preserve area with a price tag that doesn’t break the bank (are there any left to break?). 2170 Azalea Drive, Roswell GA 30075 is currently listed at $369,000 (MLS# 3817135). Click here to view the property by entering in that number in the “Quick search by listing number”.

This location needs little hype- within walking distance of some tremendous natural beauty and activites, wonderful public schools whether the buyer ends up in Roswell or Walton districts, fantastic restaraunts and shops of historic Roswell and The Avenues right down 120 in Marietta and easy access to a number of major roads to assist your commute. The Chattahoochee is not only a place to unwind…it’s a terrific spot to look for your next home.
